Refugia: loving the earth

Refugia (reh-FU-jee-ah) is a biological term describing places of shelter where life endures in times of crisis, such as a volcanic eruption, fire, or stressed climate. Ideally, these refugia endure, expand, and connect so that new life emerges.

Refugia Native Plant Garden

To show our love for the earth, to heal the earth we have begun a project of renewing our landscape by planting native and pollinator friendly plants.

Our Programs

When God created the earth and said every part from the stars to the plants we good. We were invited into relationship with the earth. At United we are working to provide a safe place where we can grow and learn in our love and care for the earth.

Refugia Worship

In these interfaith worship we want to create refugia: a space of refuge and hope. We will offer lament – expressing our anger and grief. We will take time to reconnect with the earth. We will provide a way to act on an issue in the climate emergency.

Refugia Book Group

We gather to talk about books on nature, the earth, climate. We read fiction and nonfiction. Hope and action will be an important part of this reading.

We will be gathering the 4th Wednesday of the month at 7pm on Zoom.

Our next meeting will be May 28th.

As we hike through the forest, walk around a lake, or sit beside a stream, the world around us echoes with the holy. We know that time in nature can offer some of our most moving and meaningful spiritual experiences. A Spirituality in Nature Group (SING) allow us to incorporate these moving encounters into our regular faith practice.

We will hold our first gathering in May.
