Earth Mending: creating refugia

Refugia (reh-FU-jee-ah) is a biological term describing places of shelter where life endures in times of crisis, such as a volcanic eruption, fire, or stressed climate. Ideally, these refugia endure, expand, and connect so that new life emerges.

Earth Mending Native Plant Garden

To show our love for the earth, to heal the earth we have begun a project of renewing our landscape by planting native and pollinator friendly plants.

Our Programs

God created the earth and said every part from the stars to the plants are good. We are invited into relationship with the earth. At United we are working to provide a safe place where we can grow and learn in our love and care for the earth.

Refugia Worship

In these interfaith worship we want to create refugia: a space of refuge and hope. We will offer lament – expressing our anger and grief. We will take time to reconnect with the earth. We will provide a way to act on an issue in the climate emergency.

As we hike through the forest, walk around a lake, or sit beside a stream, the world around us echoes with the holy. We know that time in nature can offer some of our most moving and meaningful spiritual experiences. A Spirituality in Nature Group (SING) allows us to incorporate these moving encounters into our regular spiritual practice.
